Ikea Hemnes Refresh

I was fortunate enough to acquire this piece from a previous customer. It’s from the Ikea Hemnes line. Normally, I don’t go for Ikea…but I do like the Hemnes as they are made from wood, have a clean minimal look to them, offer great storage and have safety features such as ability to attach to the wall and drawers that won’t fall out. Luckily, this piece was in great shape and just needed a little sprucing up to make special and stand out.

*Apologies, I didn't take a before pic! But it is the white Hemnes from Ikea...here is what it looks like on their website:

PREP

After a thorough cleaning (as you see in the pic, I have a helper :-)), I removed all the hardware and gave the piece a good sanding and wipe down again. Next came wood filler and a light sand to fill and smooth any noticeable imperfections

PRIMER AND PAINT

With the prep work done, the piece was ready for paint. I used a high quality primer to give the paint a good surface to stick to and followed that with two coats of Benjamin Moore Shenandoah Taupe. I’m loving this color…it’s a great neutral that reads cool to warm depending on the light.

LAST STEPS

Once thoroughly dry, I applied a matte finishing wax. For the hardware, I used a new favorite of mine in brushed gold. I had used it on a previous dresser painted in this same color and loved it so much I had to do it here too! And voila! A beautifully updated hemnes dresser all ready for it’s new home!

Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I hope you enjoyed this makeover!
