Hello! This project has been a long time coming. I knew I wanted to paint this dresser a beautiful olive green ever since it came to us (last summer!)...but with holidays, fixing up our rental home and just every day life in general it's been sitting there; patiently waiting for me. Now, as the light returns and Spring just around the corner my inspiration to create has returned and it feels soooo good. I've loved every moment of this dresser makeover and, if I may so say myself, it turned out beautiful! I love love love this green color (Benjamin Moore Dark Olive). This is also a high quality solid wood dresser with several unique features that I appreciate including ball bear drawer glides, tilt guards and rounded corners (which has me remembering all the furniture corners my son bumped his head on when he was little and wishing they were rounded like these). See below for more information and pictures of the makeover!
PREP WORK
It started white...you can't tell from the pictures but the white had become dingy over time, there were some stains and sticky spots. SO cleaning with water and alcohol (and lots of scrubbing) was step one. Once cleaned, I sanded the dresser down - more so on the drawers because I thought perhaps leaving them wood would look nice. But, the wood wasn't consistent looking across all the drawers and I ultimately decided painting them would look best. I'm glad I did! It gives this dresser the minimalist modern look I was going for. After primer it was now time for the fun part - the paint!
PAINTING
As I mentioned, this is Dark Olive by Benjamin Moore. Our new puppy Paco approves :-). Two coats and it looks so good! What a pretty green!
DETAILS
New legs (I polled my sister: to paint or not to paint. She made the right call to paint them). Then cleaning and re-greasing the glides (degreasing soap and then some white lithium grease per the experts of the internet), some matte sealing wax for protecting and finally new hardware.
FINAL RESULTS AND STAGING
This one turned out so good! After staging, my husband thinks it works perfectly right where it is in our house and should stay. I know I feel that way each time I makeover a piece so I remind myself this as I post it to sell :-).
I didn't create any new pieces of art for this one since I'm currently working on a painting for my Mom (I'll share that one soon). Instead I used paintings/drawings that I did in the past and have in my house. The anemones are from my garden. First flowers!
Hope you enjoyed this post! Thanks for stopping in and sharing in the creative process :-).
