Solid Pine Project

Hello Everyone! Today I am sharing a new makeover...this beautiful solid pine dresser. It came to us begging for some dignity. The beauty was there...it was just covered by stickers, hardware that didn't complement, bits and pieces of thread wrapped in the drawer wheels and a finish that had seen better days (that's a burn mark on the top of the piece).

I think raw wood is so beautiful and was hoping that I'd get lucky and this dresser could be kept all wood. As I cleaned, inspected, and sanded; I found that the top needed repairs beyond sanding. It was a fortunate let down, though, because the after turned out so much better than I could have imagine. I love this dresser (as it seems I do them all...I guess it happens as I connect and create...I know it's good to let go though. My house cannot fit them all!).

After cleaning, removing hardware, repairing, sanding, and two coats of primer; I decided to paint the body of the dresser Pale Oak by Benjamin Moore. It's such a beautiful color. Light, neutral, warm tones...a very light "griege" that leans more beige (perhaps a slight nod to mauve according to my eyes). Luckily the drawers were in good condition and could be left wood. After they were completely sanded and smooth, I bleached the wood until it was the lightness I wanted (it took 3 rounds of bleaching and drying). Love the results!

Next, I thoroughly cleaned and finished it all with a matte wax to seal and protect. Finally, came the fun part of picking out hardware. I chose antique brass circular pulls and added backplates to the top three drawers to give them a special feel (waiting on two more pulls to come in pic below). I really couldn't help adding a tassel. It was just calling for one! So so happy with it all.

As I saw the dresser coming together, I started the painting to go with it. This is my favorite part and what really makes my heart happy. I always have to see the dresser for the inspiration to come. This one could handle color and I really wanted the earthy, warm, dreamy, happy vibes to come through. I just started painting...using colors that would bring out the best of the dresser and gathering inspiration from the view out the back of my house (sky, mountains, hills...it's the layers that inspired and nudged this painting in the right direction). I've also been dreaming of a trip to the mountains so a pathway there seemed like the right choice.

Again, I just love how it all turned out. A little styling and now it is ready to sell. I hope it brings joy to those that care for it and that it is cherished for many years to come. I hope you all enjoyed this post and find inspiration and beauty...both here and in your own surroundings. Thank you for reading!

Had to add this last pic too..here it is next to it's "sister" dresser (also ready to sell)...setup and ready to go to their new homes...

Thank you again!!! Hope you enjoyed!
