Country to Cream Project 9 Drawer Project

Updated: Aug 26, 2023

Hello! A new favorite paint color of mine...Benjamin Moore's Creamy White. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love the dark olive greens that have been such a hit BUT I'm excited to show a new paint color (and plan on using in my own living room redo which I will blog about once complete). Here are the details on this transformation...

BEFORE

What a beautiful piece! The wood is gorgeous...it's by a company called Pennsylvania House. I love the size, nine drawers, and storage in this one. I don't love the cabinet doors. They date the piece and put it into the country category...whereas I prefer more simple and modern. I was pondering keeping the doors and filling the indentations but the spaces to fill are so large and I realized it would compromise the quality of the piece. After taking the doors off, I loved the way the pull out drawers looked and made the decision to just keep them off and play off the simple nine drawer look! More simplified but also the drawers in the middle show off some of that beautiful wood and also can act as a sneak peek display for pretty linens, baskets, pottery, barware, etc.

DESIGN PLAN

SIMPLIFY

The quickest way I feel to update a piece is to simplify it's structure. In this case, that meant removing the cabinet doors + taking off the bulky base and rebuilding it to support new modern legs (adding middle support and going with 5" legs for this one).

SAND, PRIME, PAINT

The star of the show here is the paint color. After filling holes and sanding (Dewalt orbital + by hand), I used a high quality primer and began to paint! The color is called Creamy White by Benjamin Moore. I saw this on cabinets done by Studio McGee; loved the look and had to try it myself. Two coats later and here it is! I hope you love this one as much as I do!

FINISH - SEAL, CLEAN, NEW HARDWARE

I know...you'd think once it's all painted you are just about finished. But no...there's still more work to be done! I like to give myself a good day to seal with matte wax, give the piece a thorough clean (careful to not clean the painted areas though...those take about two weeks to fully cure), and add the new hardware. I used brushed brass for the hardware here and added hardware to the middle three to help it look cohesive. Now...for the final step...

STAGE AND SELL

I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I hope you enjoyed this post! See you soon!
